Formulated Controls on God

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Joseph Perrello The theology of the Apostle Paul emphasizes that mankind possesses the vestiges of an instinctive awareness of God, an innate realization that humanity owes an obligation to Him; an awareness that has been incorporated within man at creation. Moreover, the Apostle writes in chapter one of his letter to the Romans, since earliest times, men were able to discern God’s existence and eternal power by the things He created. Though aware of these things, they refused to retain the true knowledge of God in their minds or admit their obligation to Him, preferring instead, to invent ridicules ideas of what God was like and how they should serve Him. Mankind deliberately refused to acknowledge God as He really is, Paul wrote. They knew the reality about Him, but refused to worship Him in truth. Because they chose to believe lies, God released them to their own corrupt devices. He permitted humanity to reap the results of its own reprobate thinking. Men created and worshiped their own gods; gods made to resemble birds, animals, snakes and humans; the things God has created. As a result, Paul stated, at the Judgment Day, when men stand before God, they will have no valid excuse for not having followed the truth, since they once knew it and deliberately chose not to follow it. I. Men find it impossible to divest themselves of the need to worship something. The awareness of the spiritual realm is universally innate in humanity; it always has been a part of the human psyche. While some do not recognize its lesser manifestations, the need to worship is a part of us all. In his book, “Primitive Religions,” published in 1891, Professor G.T. Bettany recorded that, though some tribes may be without a higher sense of religion, few, if any, do not believe in spiritual beings of some kind. Charles Darwin in his “Descent of Man,” (vol i; p. 143) also noted this tendency in the human race. He wrote, “If . . . we include in the term ‘religion’ the belief in unseen or spiritual agencies . . . this belief seems to be universal with the less civilized races.” The animist’s fear that spiritual beings inhabit natural objects and must be appeased, the dread that the spirits of the dead must be worshiped to prevent them from harming the living, the worship of the spirits in the powers of nature, the belief of totemism that certain animals and plants must be respected to refrain them from injuring humans, the rituals of sorcery, shamanism, witchcraft and numerous other formulas, are religious practices utilized by primitives seeking to control the gods before whom they feel a sense of guilt. These practices bear witness that even remote tribes possess vestiges of an awareness of the existence of God, and sense that mankind has offended Him; and therefore an obligation is due Him. True, this perception of a deity whom men have offended is corrupted, but it is nevertheless real. The physician Luke dramatically illustrated the deep-rooted, intrinsic fear in the human psyche that the gods are displeased with men and must be appeased, during his travels with the Apostle Paul. While in Athens, he and the Apostle noticed idols everywhere. An altar bearing the plaintive inscription, To the unknown god, especially caught their attention. The Athenians feared that, in their ignorance, they might have neglected to appease a god unknown to them. In an effort to diminish the risks of incurring his wrath - should such a god exist they fashioned an altar. No doubt suitable ritual practices were concocted. It was a pathetic attempt to control the unknown god and bend him to their will, though the Athenians never could be sure they had succeeded. The account is a typical example of the insecurity felt by those who have not learned the revealed nature of the true God. It is precisely this lack of understanding that generates profound terror in them. Men do not know God, but have a deep-rooted sense of guilt toward Him, so they fear Him.In their fear they attempt to manipulate Him.*****II.”A formula is something that worked once, and keeps trying to do it again.” (Henry S. Haskins; “Family Word Finder,” Readers Digest, page 322.) Since the beginning of the apostasy, men have invented practices by which they endeavor to place human restrictions on God. Our society has fallen heir to this propensity in our race. As a result, the field of religion in our generation has become a hotbed of religious formulas that endeavor to shrink God to human proportions. Whole cults have proliferated around such formulas. In Christianity, denominations have split over them. In the past few generations, such tactics have devastated the American church. Originally, with humanity’s rejection of truth in the infancy of our race, the practice of mankinds need to worship took simple forms the adoration of idols, animals, potentates, sun, moon, and planets, et cetera, endeavoring to control or manipulate these gods, by inventing religious formulas for that purpose. Although this rudimentary idolatry is still practiced in some communities, among “civilized” peoples, the modern endeavor to control the true God manifests a more sophisticated expression. Until descending into disgrace, several televangelist pervaded the screen with their name-it-and-claim-it ballyhoos, which is nothing more than the proclamation that men can control God and bend Him to their will by simply naming their desires and claiming it already accomplished. By their doing this, God supposedly was compelled to grant these desires. However, God is not an infinite vending machine; we cannot insert a claimed desire, say we believe it to be accomplished, and out pops that which we claimed. Neither will God consent to being controlled by men formulas not withstanding. “Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:1-2). This is the only “formula” necessary for a right relationship with the true God. -30- Josprel (Joseph Perrello) josprel@verison.net Josprel is an ordained minister who resides in Western New York - just across the Niagara River from Canada. Avoid The Marketing Two-Step

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Kevin P. Dervin Small business marketing seems to go one of a couple of ways. Here are two basic definitions of marketing. You can decide for yourself which one you’re using to try and market and grow your business. 1. Marketing is the coordinated and systematic use of strategies and tactics to generate a consistent supply of high-quality leads for your small business. 2. Marketing is a two-step process. It’s a good bet that you’re using definition number two to try and take your own business to the next level. Sorry, you may like the first definition better. But, experience tells me that most small businesses are subscribing to definition number two. If you are one of those businesses, I can almost guarantee that your results are not what you’d like them to be. They can’t be because the two-step marketing approach just doesn’t work. Are You Doing The Marketing Two-Step? Let’s back up for a minute. Just what the heck do I mean by saying “marketing is a two-step process” anyway? You might remember back in the early 1990’s (early in my own work career) that country music was very popular. Names like Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, and Clint Black were topping the charts. If these names don’t sound familiar to you, that’s ok, you’ll still get the point. This popularity of country music introduced a whole generation of people to country dancing. One very well known type of country dancing is the Texas Two-Step. The Texas Two-Step is pretty easy to learn because… well there are really only two steps. God bless Texas for naming the dance so we’d all know what we’re doing. Unfortunately, way too many small businesses are using a two-step process. It’s the most common approach to marketing across all industries. But incredibly, it’s the most ineffective, time-wasting, energy-wasting, and money-wasting approach available. How Does The Two-Step Work (I mean NOT work)? Pick a marketing tool, any marketing tool- an advertisement, a brochure, a direct mail piece, a web site, promotional email, etc. It doesn’t really matter the tool so much as it does the way most small businesses try to use it. In the two-step process, the marketing tool simply announces the product or service being offered, list a few features (maybe even some benefits), sometimes makes a special introductory or discount offer, and then list the company contact information (usually phone number and/or web site). That’s step one. Step two is that your prospects or existing clients get so out-of-their-mind excited that they contact your right away to either buy, or they at least ask for more information about it. Have you ever seen an ad, brochure, direct mail piece, web site, or promotional email like this? Sure you have because everybody is doing it - and there in lies part of the problem. Back in the early nineties, it seemed like everyone was doing the Texas Two-Step. So if you weren’t learning it, you were out of step. Sorry, I couldn’t resist the pun. Why Does Everyone Do It If It Does Not Work? Most small business owners feel comfortable and safe doing what everyone else is doing. Part of the reasoning seems to be that ‘it must work or everybody else would not be doing it.’ But it doesn’t work. Everyone else is doing it because they’re simply looking to see what everyone else is doing. It becomes a real vicious cycle of copying ineffective marketing ideas from everyone else. Don’t believe me? Try this little test. Grab a handful of newspapers, business journals, chamber newsletters, and/or trade publications and scan the ads. Open up the yellow pages and scan the ads. Collect the direct mail pieces or brochures you come across in the next week. Visit a handful of your competitors’ web sites. I’d be willing to bet that a majority of your research will reveal the company name used as the headline, a list of four or five service offerings, maybe a couple of benefit type statements or a special offer, and number to call for more information. That’s following the ‘marketing is a two-step process’ definition. And chances are you’re following it as well. If you are, I feel confident in saying that you’re not happy with your marketing results. You simply can’t be because the two-step doesn’t work in marketing. Make Your Marketing More Than A Two-Step Process. What you need is a consistent, systematic approach to marketing. That means incorporating and combining the various pieces of your marketing strategies and tactics together for greater impact. Focus on providing valuable, useful information and resources to your prospective clients that actually help them solve problems and achieve desired outcomes. Yes, I realize that is what you typically expect your clients to pay for. But, what you may not realize is that it is also the best way to attract new clients consistently. Now realize that this is not simply offering to give away a portion of your products or services for fr~ee. That rarely works. Allow me to illustrate with an example. Consider the difference between a two-step networking approach and a coordinated, systematic approach to networking. In a two-step approach, you go to an event and give out your card to as many people as you can meet urging them to call to “go to lunch” or “have coffee” sometime. In a coordinated, systematic approach you go to an event and focus on making a few great connections. You ask other’s for their card and tell them that you have a recent article you’ve written that you’d love to send them. When you send the article, you let them know that if they like the information, they can download another special report off your web site when they subscribe to your fr~ee monthly ezine… I could go on, but I hope you’re beginning to see the difference. Better Marketing Approach - Better Results. If you’re not getting the results you crave from your current marketing approach, then it’s time to change your approach. Isn’t a popular definition of insanity ‘doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results?’ Keep doing the marketing two-step and you’ll keep getting the same disappointing results you’ve always gotten. Don’t be fooled if one of your competitors or some other company you admire appears to be successful despite using the marketing two-step. There is most likely additional coordinated marketing activity going on that you’re simply not aware of. Also, don’t be fooled by anyone trying to tell you that you just need to keep running your ads again and again so that you build up name recognition and brand awareness. The thought is that the repetitive exposure and awareness will build up so that eventually your target market will know you’re out there and business will start to happen. It’s a myth. Trust me, it’s more than being persistent and putting your two-step message out there again and again that is keeping anyone from calling. You may get lucky from time to time and strike just when someone is looking for exactly what you offer, but your results won’t be consistent. By having a coordinated, systematic approach to marketing you’re placing value on obtaining prospects. You’ll be able to generate a constant supply of high-quality leads that you can work on building up interest, credibility, and trust with until they’re ready to say ‘yes’ and begin a conversation about how you might be able to help. That’s what an effective marketing approach can do for your business. Leave the two-step to dancing at country bars. Passover Holiday Meaning to the Jewish People Celebrating Freedom

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Gail Leino The Passover is meant to celebrate the freedom of the Jewish people from the Egyptians nearly 3,300 years ago. Explained in the book of Exodus, God directed Moses and Hebrews to offer and consume roasted lamb to symbolize the Passover sacrifice. They were then instructed to spread the blood of the lamb on the doorposts and lintel to serve as a sign to pass over the home thus protecting them from the last plague - death of the first born son. The offering of lambs in ritual today has mainly been substituted with the roasting of eggs and shankbone. This celebration has since been recognized as a feast day named Passover Seder. Declaring the importance of the Passover procedure, the Passover Haggadah gives a narration in Hebrew of the story as well as prayers and many other resources useful in celebrating the holiday. The celebration lasts seven or eight days and begins at sundown on the 15th day of Nissan in the Hebrew calendar. Why the difference in days of celebration? It has to do with the conversion of calendar days. The Passover in Israel is celebrated for seven days based on scriptures but the Jewish calendar is a function of the lunar cycle and scholars added the extra day to make room for the differentiation in the moons location in the sky. The importance of Passover today has a tiered level of significance. First, it is a historical and biblical event signifying the escape from Egyptian slavery of the book Exodus. Secondly, this celebration acts as an agricultural marker in that the celebration of spring brings new beginnings in a growing season. Lastly, the religious significance gives God the recognition of as being the redeemer of the Hebrew peoples. One could also argue that another important prospect of the Passover in Kabbalistic traditions notes that the play out of God’s commandments in observation of the Passover fulfills the redemption process and highlights his mercy as justice. Beautiful Bridal Handkerchiefs For Your Wedding Day

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Luanne Oda It has long been a tradition for brides to carry a lace or embroidered handkerchief on their wedding day. Many of our grandmothers & great grandmothers brought them over from the “Old Country” or handmade their own. They are making a big comeback today. It’s nice to add a touch of yesteryear to your special day. In Belgium, a country famous for their lace work, it is a tradition for the family of the bride to purchase or make a hankie. The bride’s name is then embroidered on it, and after the ceremony it is displayed in the bride’s family home. As subsequent daughters in the family marry, their names are added and then displayed. Maybe you are fortunate enough to have a family heirloom to use on your wedding day. If not you can find gorgeous handkerchiefs both new & vintage in local antique stores and on the internet. You can visit my website for one of the largest selections of handkerchiefs you will find. The Most Common Complaints about Translation Services

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

By Marian Marcinkowski Within past years modern electronic communication has created extensive business opportunities for freelance translators. They are able to reach clients from all over the world and perform their jobs at their own convenience. It appears to be a dream profession, but yet so many translators report that its challenging to keep their previous clients, and that the number of clients they served has diminished. One would like to know why this takes place. First of all, one need to be aware that nowadays there is a great competition on the market, and clients are very selective. So how do I make sure that clients will return to me, not to my competitor? There are clients who constantly need translation services, and they actually prefer to use the same translator for many different projects. They will only cooperate with you again if they were satisfied with your previous services. It is also to your advantage to be familiar with complains the clients have made about translation services in the past. The most common ones are: 1. The project was not finished on time. 2. The translator demonstrated poor language skills: grammar, spelling, punctuation, omitted words, etc. 3. The translator misunderstood the formation of the translation project. He/she used different font, style. He/she did not translate the images. He/she did not include tables, etc. 4. The translator showed poor communication skills. He/she was not flexible enough. He/she has never notified when a problem occurred during the translation process. 5. The translator was hard to reach at his/her office. He/she did not provide adequate mailing address and all the documents kept returning to the sender. 6. The translator turned out to be not reliable. He/she assured he/she knew the dialect of the language but did not demonstrate this skill. He/she advertised himself/herself as a legal translator but never certified his/her work. When returning the project he/she did not include the original seal. He/she never corrected his/her previous mistakes even though he/she promised to do so. 7. The translator was not culturally sensitive. He/she presented himself/herself as a native speaker but did not know all the aspects of the culture. 8. The translator never returned money. He/she admitted that the translation was poorly done and promised to recompense but never did. 9. The translator did not respond well to constrictive criticism. In order to stand out from the competition, and have your previous clients come back to you, one ought to perform self evaluation after each translation project. Be critical about your skills and ask your clients for feedbacks. Even the negative ones might provide you with another perspectives and ideas on how to improve your skills and develop your professional growth. Sometimes constrictive criticism leads to a positive change. And positive feedbacks guarantee good promotion, trust among clients, and more projects. Good luck. Bass Fishing - Texas Rig

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

By Bobby Ivie I’ve caught bass on crankbaits, spinners, plugs and others. But for me, the most fun is plastic worms on a Texas Rig. Don’t get me wrong, catching a largemouth bass is catching a largemouth bass, and I’d gladly catch one with my mother’s toe nail if they’d bite it. What’s my fascination with plastic worms and the Texas Rig? Simplicity in changing baits from color to color and style, they are weedless and effective. But there’s more to it. I love them because I feel they are more interactive and you have to fool the bass more than with other baits. If you throw out a worm and just reel it in, you are not likely to catch many fish. You have to know how to work it and you have to be very patient in your presentation and when the fish hits. Sometimes the strike will be like an explosion, and you and bass both know what’s happening. Others it’s very subtle. Sometimes you won’t even know the bass has it until you reel in the slack and feel something different going on. Maybe there should be slack in the line but it’s getting tight. Or vice-versa. Or maybe you can see the line going sideways in the water. That’s one of my favorites because you have to know the right time to set the hook. Set it too soon and the largemouth may not have it in it’s mouth good. Set it too late and it might have spit it out. That’s exciting; and frustrating. The Texas rigged plastic worm (you can use it for other plastics, too) is very portable. If you want to hike around the lake and fish the shore, don’t lug your whole tackle box. Just get a worm pouch, load it with a few favorite styles, colors, hooks and sinkers, stuff it in your back pocket and hit the trail. Plus, you can change lures on the fly. Once your Texas Rig is set up, it’s a matter of pulling the bait off the hook and sliding another on. No knots to retie. This gives you freedom to explore different colors and styles of plastics in a hurry. In a Texas Rig, the sinker is a bullet slip sinker that rides freely on the line with nothing else between the rod and the bait (the benefit is that the bass cannot feel the sinker when it strikes). This drags the plastic bait down and allows it to bounce or swim along the bottom. To set it up just run your line through a bullet slip sinker (best sizes are from 3/8 oz. to an ounce) and tie the line to a worm hook size 2 or 3. The twisted ones help with hookset. Once you have the hooked tied on, run the hook tip through the end of the head of the plastic and push it in about a quarter of an inch. Now run the hook tip out of the plastic bait (belly side) and push the bait up the hook towards the eye. Bury the tip of the hook into the bait near the abdomen or egg sac. Some people push it all the way through and snug the hook tip near the body (on the backside or top). This allows for better hook set, but results in more snags. I like to push it through just before it breaks out of the back where I can feel that it will pop through easily. If you do this, be sure to set the hook hard to penetrate the plastic. When you cast the bait, let it settle all the way to the bottom and give it several seconds before moving it. Sometimes the longer you wait, the better luck you will have. Even 30 seconds or more. Try different presentations from very slow to moderate (never very fast). I usually give the bait 1 or 2 short pumps, let it fall while reeling in the slack, then give it 2 or 3 pumps. Be careful. Always reel in the slack, but more often than not that’s when you’ll get the bite. They often hit it on the fall, so expect something every time you bring in the slack. You can try longer pumps, like bring the line in 2 or 3 feet then let it settle. Try moving it painfully slow, try bouncing it quicker, try swimming it very slowly across the bottom and whatever else you can think of. When something works, stick with it. Use the worms around vegetation and rocks. My best luck has been around trees in the water. Sometimes there will be trees that hang out into the water. These are hot spots for bass. One trick I learned by accident is to cast the Texas Rig out over a weak limb hanging over the water. You want a weak limb because you want it to break or collapse when the bass hits, and it will. I move that plastic worm up and down, in and out of the water to tease and annoy the bass. If there’s one there, you’ll get a strike. Certainly there are plenty of natural cures around today for treating acid reflux by brining balance back to a person’s stomach. Below we will take a look at some of the natural cures which can help to provide relief from this condition and will help to rebalance the amount of acid in the stomach. 1. Cinnamon Although this particular spice tastes great on pastries it has also been used for medicinal purposes for many centuries. It is already well known for helping in the treatment of colds and flu’s. But recently it has been found to be an effective treatment against Candida Albicans also as well as having the ability to help settle stomachs which have become too acidic. 2. Cardamom This particular spice is found in India as is known as been successful in helping to treat people who have the Celiac disease. This particular disease makes people intolerant to gluten which can be found in most forms of bread sold today. 3. Grapefruit Skins The best type of grapefruit to use is an organic one and it helps to settle people who are suffering from acid reflux. What you need to do in order to use this particular acid reflux natural cure is by grating the entire outer skin of the grapefruit and then place on a flat dish spread across the whole of the dish to dry. It is important they dry out completely so that they become crinkly. Once they have completely dried out you store them in a glass jar or zip lock bag until required. Now whenever you either get an upset stomach or start to suffer from acid reflux start chewing and eating these strips of dried out grapefruit skin. It may only take a few of these to be eaten and your stomach will soon begin to settle back down again. Above we have provided you a few acid reflux natural cures that you may want to try but there are plenty of others such as romaine lettuce or mace, nutmeg and slippery eel. All of these acid reflux natural cures seem to be beneficial in the treatment of this particular disorder as they contain alkaline nutrients which provide relief to the symptoms you are feeling.
